Our History

Our school was opened on September 15, 1972 by Alex B. Campbell. When Ellerslie Elementary was opened, we had 388 students, 20 staff, and 8 bus drivers. Today,  forty six years later, we have 200 students, 13 teaching staff, 4 Educational Assistants, 1 Administration Assistant, 2 custodians and 5 bus drivers.

In celebration of our twenty-fifth anniversary, in 1997  all of our students went outside, joined hands around the school and sang “Happy Birthday”. The Home and School / School Council served birthday cake and chocolate milk to the staff and students.

Our school is a consolidated school. It was formed through the consolidation of 22 small community schools from the following areas: Ellerslie/ Bideford, East Bideford, McNeill’s Mills, Poplar Grove, Freeland, Murray Road, Foxley River, Woodbrook, Inverness, Arlington, Northam, Harmony, Victoria West, Enmore, North Enmore, Birch Hill, Conway, Port Hill, Tyne Valley, Portage, Springhill, and Mount Pleasant.
